3D Smižany

A small town with a population almost 9000 inhabitants is situated in a place where the Hornad river is leaving the Slovak Paradise National Park. It is well known with its settlements during the Great Moravia Empire. The first written records are since 1254 and the records mention the village as a village of royal dog handlers. There existed well developed metallurgical factories in Smizany during medieval times and the last smelter was functioning until 1886. There is an Early Gothic church on the square since 13-th century, which has been rebuilt for several times. There are valuable oil-paintings of calvary in the interior of the church. Smizany was a part of the town Spisska Nova Ves until 1989.
