2008 Model Your Campus entry. Bournemouth University is, compared to institutions such as Oxford and Cambridge, all new. Under the Higher & Further Education Act of 1992, Bournemouth Polytechnic became Bournemouth University with inauguration on November 27th of the same year. Before becoming a University its origins can be traced back to the early part of the 20th century, when it was known as the Bournemouth Municipal College. Its modern history began in the 1970's, with the creation of the Bournemouth College of Technology. Construction of new buildings on what was the largest farm in Talbot Village was completed by September of 1976, to become the basis of the Talbot Campus you see today.
