The National Register of Historic Places is the United States government’s official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects worthy of preservation. It recognizes buildings which are integral to the cultural development and representation of the United States. These buildings range in type and style from the monumental and architect-designed to the utilitarian and vernacular, including a sampling of the United States' vast array of regionally and ethnically derived building traditions.
Heritage Documentation Programs, such as HABS (Historic American Buildings Survey), and HAER (Historic American Engineering Record) are excellent resources for information pertaining to these buildings. Use of construction documents, photographs, and historical write-ups will greatly aid in the modeling of said buildings. Digital models are becoming a new form of conserving built memories.
