2009 Bridge Modeling Competition entry
Bridges on which have been built pavilion or gallery is called Pavilion Bridge or Gallery Bridge. This kind of bridge not only shade for visitors shelter from the rain, but also increase the changes in the shape of the bridge.
Anshun Lounge Bridge in Chengdu has a long history; the original building can be traced back to the Yuan Dynasty. When Marco Polo traveled the world, he recorded four china’s bridges. Anshun Lounge Bridge is one of the four bridges. It is learned that the old Anshun lounge bridge with the time flying only last piers on both sides. In 2002 the government of Chengdu began to rebuild the bridge in accordance with the original, making the old Anshun bridge downtown restoration of expression, and on use in August 2003.
Anshun Lounge Bridge is near by the place where the Fu River and Nan River intersection. The main bridge is 81 meters long, 23.6 meters wide. Its appearance looks like an old building, but on the bridge is a very modern restaurant. There is a huge balcony outside of the bridge. Sometimes buffer and tea party will be held on it. Sitting in the balcony can enjoy the scenery. So the Anshun bridge is not only convenient for people to across the river, but also functional with the features of history, culture, trade, restaurants in one bridge. It bring in the cultural connotations of old-word to Chinese and foreign visitors and at the same time it has a new role and significance.
