|
Petal, Mississippi is a small southern Mississippi city of about 10,600 people located on the Leaf River near Hattiesburg, MS. Petal was founded in the early 1900s, and was named in memory of Petal Polk, the young daughter of the town's early Postmaster, Irvin Polk. Petal is the only US city with that unique name. Prior to its incorporation in 1974 Petal was listed as the largest unincorporated town in the US.
