| Pei, Cobb & Freed are a New York based international architectural firm. Ieoh Ming Pei (1917-Present) is a Pritzker Prize winning Chinese-American Architect, formerly from Canton, China, that is considered the last master of high modernism. He was educated in China before working toward his degree at the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University and Harvard Graduate School of Design (under Walter Gropius) in the United States. In 1946, before starting I.M. Pei and Partners, he worked for building giant William Zeckendorf (who had employed Le Corbusier). Henry N. Cobb (1926-Present), co-founder to the original firm, was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy, Harvard College, and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Cobb has recently become the head, and only remaining member, of the partnership due to Pei retiring and Freed's death at the end of 2005. James Ingo Freed (1930-2005) was born in Essen, Germany, but escaped the Nazi Regime with his family at age 9. In 1956, he completed his degree at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and soon after began work with architect Mies van der Rohe. In 1956, Freed joined Pei and Cobb's firm and later became a partner. The firm of Pei, Cobb and Freed has been awarded the American Institute of Architects: Architectural Firm Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York Society of Architects and over 150 awards for their collection of over 200 projects around the world.
