Shaker Architecture
by Arch Seminar 2007
The Shaker movement is nationally significant as one of the most outstanding and successful American utopian efforts. The United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, nicknamed Shakers, established in the United States in late 18th Century, building over 19 communities distributed over several states. A common characteristic of all locations is the recurrent demolition of a number of structures along the years, and a comprehensive visualization of the Shaker built environment is only feasible through digital simulations. The present collection showcases the first steps towards allowing the public to virtually explore aspects of the craftsmanship, culture and everyday life of this distinct group in American History.
