| Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects is an international operating, American architectural firm that consists of Cesar Pelli, Fred W. Clarke and Rafael Pelli. Cesar Pelli (1926-Present) was born in San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina; and his early training was completed at the Universidad Nacional de Tucuman. After immigration to the United State in 1952, Pelli studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and in 1954 received his Master’s degree in architecture. For the next ten years, after graduation, he worked as a designer for Eero Saarinen; and later for Daniel, Mann, Johnson & Mendenhall (DMJM) and Gruen Associates. In 1977, Pelli opened Cesar Pelli & Associates in New Haven, Connecticut with his wife Diana and Clarke. In 2005, the firm was renamed Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects to reflect new partners. Cesar Pelli has inspired many people through his design, but also through his teaching and writing. He has taught at the Universidad Nacional de Tucuman, the University of California and was Dean of the School of Architecture at Yale University. He has also written "Observations for Young Architects". The firm has received over a hundred awards including the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Gold Medal in 1995. Some of the firm’s most important projects include Canary Wharf, the World Financial Center in Manhattan, and the Petronas Towers, once the tallest in the world.
