Each of the front two legs of Roy Underhill's Roubo workbench are attached to the bench top slab by use of a "rising" dovetail • When assembled, the dovetail looks impossible, as it appears that it can not be slipped together, nor disassembled • The back face of the dovetail tenon is angled, permitting its assembly • Roy Underhill's workbench, styled after historic workbench(s) designed by Andre Roubo, is presented in a PDF file, from the University of North Carolina Press • http://www.uncpress.unc.edu/woodwright/images/Underhill_Guide_excerpt.pdf • At the online "Fine Woodworking" blog, Mike Flaim describes a workbench he designed and built, using the Roubo workbench rising-dovetail leg concept:
