Home to the United States Department of Defense, the Pentagon provides military protection against potential threats to United States security. Located in Arlington, Virginia, the Pentagon’s signature layout was designed by architect George Bergstrom and dedicated on January 15, 1943. With five sides, five floors above ground, and five ring corridors per floor, the Pentagon is the world’s highest-capacity office building and the fourth largest building in the world by floor area.
