The construction of the hotel Ryugyong, begun in 1986, was halted in 1992 because of serious economic problems (starvation ...) in North Korea. The construction resumed in April 2008 with the installation of windows on the facades. According to some experts, the quality of the concrete might have been altered during the 16 years when the 105-story building was abandoned, and installation of windows may be a way to hide that the structure is being degraded. This mixed-use development building is supposed to open in 2012, for the 100th anniversary of Kim Il-Sung. The base can unfortunately not be created: there are no photographies of it.
