The site of the current Federal Hall National Monument (built in 1842) has been a historically important site which has housed many uses and buildings. The original structure was the New York City hall which was built in 1700. It was in front of this building that George Washington took his oath of office in 1789. It housed the US Government until 1790 when it was moved to Philadelphia. The original structure was demolished in 1812 and the current structure was built as a custom house and later served as a Federal Reserve Bank. Model created by Mason Thrall.
