As a homage to the city, Renzo Piano’s design for an Office building in Sydney is a response to five main aims for a state of the art tower in this unique location. One is the aim to reflect the historical and architectural quality of the existing buildings in Macquarie Street. Another is to address the powerful urban role of new buildings in Sydney, to complete and solidify an urban fabric that is still in a stage of defining itself. Most importantly are the aims to humanise the nature of the tower with a different concept of sociability both within and between the elements of the buildings themselves and to respect the surrounding natural environment. A truly urban sculpture responding to the context of the site, the nature of the views, winds and orientation, a final aim is also to produce something more memorable than just another skyscraper.
