The National September 11th Memorial and Museum will be one of the largest memorials in the world. Located in the heart of Lower Manhattan, New York, this memorial will be a downtown centerpiece. When completed, the National September 11th Memorial will contain 2 giant reflecting pools, a visitors center, an underground museum, education center, and resource center. The September 11th Memorial and Pavilion is currently under construction, and is planned to be finished within 2 years. The memorial is the centerpiece of the New World Trade Center. With 8 acres of oak trees and 2 giant reflecting pools, it will become one of the most complex national memorials in the United States. The 2 giant reflecting pools are already built, and are located on the footprints of the original World Trade Center. Designed by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, the memorial will contain a mix of simplicity, complexity, and modern design. The parapets of the memorial will contain etched-names of all the 2,981 people who lost their lives during September 11th 2001. In addition, the giant reflecting pools will be the largest man-made waterfall in the United States. ***Although the 9/11 Memorial Plaza itself is complete, the 9/11 Memorial Pavilion is not.
