Inspired by Sainte Chappelle in Paris, Thorncrown Chapel was designed by architect E. Fay Jones for landowner-client Jim Reed. Originally the land was to be a private retirement home for Jim, but due to the site being of such an experiential nature, nestled deep in the forests with views of the Ozarks, Jim decided to leave the land as publicly open as it had been before, and the chapel was completed and opened on July 10, 1980. The beauty of the buildings structure lies in the fact that it was almost completely constructed through pure manpower, as to preserve the natural trails through the trees. The building placement in the trees and its structure allows light play a huge role in the experience of the individual who comes here. Model created by Zach Moore.
