Science Hall II, designed by James Lynch and Associates, was built from 1969 and was finished in 1972. The building was conceived as an unconnected addition to the first science building. It is home to the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management and the Department of Entomology at Iowa State University. Both departments are members of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The focus of the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management is broad in scope, ranging from individual organisms to landscapes, from natural to managed ecosystems, from wilderness to agricultural and urban systems, from local to international environments, and from resource preservation to utilization. The Department of Entomology originated in 1880, when Professor Herbert Osborn taught the first entomology course in the nation at Iowa State. This tradition of excellence in basic and applied entomology continues today; the Department of Entomology works to provide an excellent education, develop innovative research programs, and supply a creative, highly visible problem-solving extension program. This model was completed by Xin Li.
