King Fahd's Fountain is currently the highest artificial fountain in the world and is located in Saudi Arabia in the city of Jeddah. It has a height of up to 312 m and was built from 1980 to 1983 in honor of King Fahd. Model for the design was the Jet d'eau fountain in Geneva.
The use of salt water makes great demands on the design, as corrosion, high abrasion, mud and sand could affect the function.
The fountain is operated by two pumps, each with 1,000 kW power, which are connected by a 350 meter long, constantly tapered tube with the nozzle. The exit speed there is 375 km / h at an outlet volume of 625 liters per second. The nozzle itself has a diameter of 126 mm. The amount of water being simultaneously in the air weighs 18 tons. The fountain is illuminated at night with 500 lights.
