Life in the modern world is about change and adaptation. This dwelling is designed to adjust to all the phases of our lifetime. The building is conceived as a main structure with two modular additions that can be added and subtracted to fit our modern life. The main house is designed with a studio floor plan to comfortably fit a single person or a couple. The butterfly roof dramatically frames the landscape, and it positions the living roof and solar array to take full advantage of the renewable resources the site affords. The first modular addition is conceived for the couple starting a family. The master suite creates a beautiful retreat, not only increasing storage and square footage, but also providing a nursery that can easily be changed into a walk-in closet when the baby has grown. The second modular addition allows for two more bedrooms for the growing family. This design allows for the modular additions to be detached and sold to someone who needs additional space, while also allowing the building to continue to evolve to fit the lifestyle of the retired couple. A house that adapts to our lifestyle, creates a sense of place, actively reduces its unused footprint, and makes use of the renewable resources of the site is the ideal dwelling for life in the modern world. www.bailow.com http://twitter.com/Bailow
