(c) Generalfeldmarschall - The Zwinger Palace in Dresden was built in the early 18th century by order of Augustus the Strong, the Elector of Saxony, in the location of a former structure part of Dresden fortifications. The predominantly Baroque building was finished in 1719, and the Neoclassical gallery facing Theaterplatz was constructed in the mid-19th century by architect Gottfried Semper. The Zwinger received heavy damage in the Allied raids of February 14-16, 1945, and was rebuilt in the following years.
