The Leeds International Swimming Pool was completed in 1966 & was the main Public Swimming Pool of Leeds. It's brutalist design devided opinion although there was a campain to save this building from demolition. It's demolition was completed at the beginning of 2010, making way for a temporary car park. There was a proposal for the 'Spiracle', a distinctive skyscraper to be built on the site, but the the plan fell through due to the recession. The Leeds City Coucil has lauched an architectural competition for an Inspirational Landmark building to take it's place once the general economic situation improves......
