This is an enhanced version of the mobile worktable seen on the New Yankee Workshop. The table has casters which flip up at the pull of a rope (allowing the table to rest firmly on its legs) and lower back into place when the ends of the table are lifted. The rope (shown as a simple line in this drawing) at each end of the table is attached to eyelets at the bottom of the hinged caster jacks and run through two other eyelets on the bottom of the stressed-skin panel. When the rope is pulled, the caster jacks flip up, allowing the caster support piece to flip up. When the end of the table is lifted, gravity pulls the caster support piece down, thus allowing the caster jacks to fall into place. The table can then be rolled. As shown in this drawing, this is a large table, using a full 4' x 8' sheet of MDF as the table top (with a sacrificial top sheet of 1/8" Masonite), but it can easily be scaled. A jack/lever is included in the plans so that the end of the table can be lifted (so the casters will drop) even when the table is loaded/heavy.
