Godmanchester Chinese Bridge is a landmark of the town of Godmanchester, Grade 2* Listed building ( Listed Details http://goo.gl/Kjf6u ) It is a pedestrian bridge that spans the River Great Ouse and built in an ostensibly Chinese style. The original was constructed in 1827 to designs by the architect James Gallier, but it fell into a bad condition and was replaced with a replica in 1869, 1960 and again in 2010. In 2010 myself and two other volunteers from the Porch museum filmed the dismantling and rebuilding of the Chinese Bridge, the first three and a half minutes of this video can be seen on YouTube from the web link. You can view the full film during the museum open days through the spring and summer months at the Queen Elizabeth School. National Heritage Description: Date Listed: 29 May 1969, Grade 2, Dated 1827, architect Gallier but reconstructed in facsimile 1960. Single span footbridge of which the parapet is of solid gault brick with stone coping at either end, and between is entirely timber of a Chinese Chippendale character, hence the bridge's name (Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v1.0.)
