Cet edifice a ete bati sous le regne de Louis XIV. Il etait destine a accueillir le Roi et toute sa court, pour succeder au Palais du Louvre, devenu trop etroit. Celui-ci même ayant été bati pour se substituer au Palais Royal, voisin au coeur de Paris. Le palais de Versailles devait pouvoir accueillir tous les personnels et servants, car l'emplacement choisi est loin du coeur de Paris. Certainement pour des raisons politiques.
Built under King Louis XIV reign. It had to be the Royal House, after "Palais Royal" and "Louvre Palace", which where not big enough for the entire court. It was far from Paris, certainly for polytical reasons. So, this palace had to welcome the whole court and servants.
