Interval tower, (also known as Bootham Tower), built in 1497 together with the adjoining archway. Originally two-storeyed, it was converted to three storeys in the 17th century by insertion of a floor in the upper part. The Postern, or Queen Margaret's Arch, was built in 1497 at the same time as the adjacent Postern Tower, and formed a gateway through the north-east part of St Mary's Abbey precinct walls. The tower is now home to York Pullman who moved in, in 1951.
