The Empire State Building is one of the absolute images that comes to people's minds when they think of New York City. Standing proudly at 1,454 feet at its tallest point, the Empire State Building is currently the tallest building in the city, as well as one of the tallest in the world. The Empire State Building is centrally located in Manhattan at 350 Fifth Avenue, between 33rd and 34th Streets. It was completed in 1931 by architects Lamb, Harmon, and Shreve and was at the time the tallest building ever built by man until it was surpassed in 1972 by the World Trade Center. The top office floor stands at 1,224 feet, where there is also an outdoor observation deck (86th floor). For a bit more money, tourists can take a small elevator up the building's spire to the 102 floor indoor observation deck (round room in the spire). From the top of the building, people can experience breathtaking views of the Island of Manhattan, the other boroughs of New York, the bay, Hudson and East River, as well as New Jersey.
