It is believed the pyramid was built as a tomb for Fourth dynasty Egyptian pharaoh Khufu(or Cheops) and constructed over a 14 to 20 year period concluding around 2560 BC. It is thought that, at construction, the Great Pyramid was 146.6 meters (481 feet) tall but with erosion and the loss of its pyramidion, its current height is 138.8 m (455 feet). Each base side was 230.5 meters, (756 feet). The total mass of the pyramid is estimated at 5.9 million tonnes, the volume is believed to be roughly 2,500,000 cubic meters.
