The middle-sized of Southampton's three shopping malls, the Marlands was opened in 1991 as the largest in the city on the site of the bus station. It has two floors, although the upper is far less successful commercially than the lower as most footfall uses the mall as a route between Above Bar and Portland Terrace without going up to the second level. The building was taken over and rebranded as the Mall between 2005-2010 but has now reverted to its original name.
