Mount Rushmore Memorial is a dynamite-carved statue of four heads of four highly-revered presidents of the United States, from left to right: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. The monument was designed and started by Gutzon Borglum, who originally wanted to carve the Presidents' entire bodies from the mountain, but due to low funds, work on George Washington's body was stopped, and work on Thomas Jefferson began. Sometimes a face with imperfections would have to be blasted off the mountain and started again in a different location. After fourteen years and one million dollars, Mount Rushmore National Memorial was completed on October 31, 1941.
