The monastery ruin Limburg was built in 1024 by emperor Konrad II as a Benedictine abbey in Romanesque style. At times the imperial insignia were kept here and here in 1038 the Advent time was fixed for the whole West on four Sundays. Since 1206 the counts of Leiningen became protective stewards of the Limburg. In 1504 it was destroyed in 'the Landshut war of succession' by troops of Leiningen. Afterwards only parts could be rebuilt and with the introduction of the Reformation the convent life became extinct.
