O edifício do Congresso Nacional, inaugurado em 1960, foi projetado por Oscar Niemeyer. É um dos três edifícios monumentais que definem a Praça dos Três Poderes. É considerado como o maior símbolo da capital do Brasil, além de referido frequentemente como o ícone do próprio país, no exterior. Sobre um bloco-plataforma horizontal encontram-se dispostos uma cúpola à esquerda (Senado) e outra à direita (Câmara dos Deputados) e, entre ambas, as duas torres dos anexos, O edifício é implantado em continuidade ao eixo monumental, a principal avenida da capital brasileira, conforme concebido por Lúcio Costa. À sua frente encontra-se a Esplanada dos Ministérios. The building of the National Congress, which opened in 1960, was designed by Oscar Niemeyer. It is one of three monumental buildings that define the Plaza of the Three Powers. It is regarded as the greatest symbol of Brazil's capital, and often referred to as the Brazilian icon abroad. On a horizontal platform are arranged a dome on the left (Senate) and another on the right (House of Representatives) and, between them, the two towers of the annexes. The building is located in continuity with the monumental axis, the main avenue of the Brazilian capital, as conceived by Lúcio Costa. In front is the Esplanade of Ministries.
