In the contemporary world, we live direct or indirectly in contact with platforms, putting on “plug-ins” according to our needs. This house was thought also as a platform, and the accommodations are added according to the user’s needs, depending on the family’s size. The steel structure works as the platform’s base: it’s made with 100% recyclable material, and it creates a modulation, so the required accommodations can be implanted into it. To the implantation on the Crissy Field, a minimal environmental impact approach was adopted, with the elevated unit, keeping the city level completely permeable. The unit was introduced on the right corner of the site, preserving the rest of that area, due to its environmental, urban and historic meaning. This choice also guarantees that the visual towards the Golden Gate is maintained. Internally the project has a fluid space and opposite windows, allowing a full ventilation. It also has some external elements that filter the entrance of sunlight at the most critical places. In the south face, this filtrating “mask” counts with energy panels which captures the sun light, reflecting our preoccupation to the concepts of sustainability present on the LEED Certificate. The respect for the environment, the personality’s differences of each user and the appropriate urban insertion were the main points that guides the decisions of this project, based on what we believe to be the way to live in the modern world.
