The TriStar is a famous PSA plane. Two delivered planes were modified by the airline for comfort and luxury and commuter survice on the Los Angeles to San Francisco route, and called "Mother Grinningbirds". The plane included a Cocktail lounge unlike any other TriStar in flight. PSA ordered five Mother Grinningbirds. The planes were found to be fuel hogs and were widthdrawn and sent to Marana, Arizona. PSA cancelled the three other plane orders. Lockheed sued for a breach of contract. PSA countersued. The three undelivered PSA TriStars were sent to LTU Airways which had an interest in the planes. One of the former PSA Grinningbirds (ex-N10114) is now "The Flying Hospital", and is currently in storage under the hot desert sun. The other Grinningbird (ex-N10112) has dissapeared into the sunset.
