Leominster is a small market town in the Northern part of Herefordshire county in the West of England near the Welsh border. On the High Street is the D.K. Travel agents and W.S. Rees Chemists, which, by the way, is my pharmacist. Built between 1600 and 1650, these two timber-framed buildings are jettied forward over the pavement on the top floor, and originally on the first floor as well, although they have now been underbuilt with modern shopfronts. The building on the left has had the timber framing covered with stucco, probably in the 19th century. The right- hand building has carved consoles under the jetty that are thought to be the work of John Abell, the ‘King’s Carpenter’, and it is very likely that the building is also by him. (Special thanks to Mr. Duncan James, the real expert on the history of Leominster Buildings, for advice on building write-ups.)
