The Salginatobel Bridge is a concrete arch bridge in Switzerland built by Robert Maillart. It was finished in 1930 and has a wingspan of 90 meters. With a single carriageway it crosses in 93 m height the valley of Salginatobel and provides a village with a few hundred inhabitants. Nevertheless, the Salginatobel Bridge is taught as a technical and architectural masterpiece of engineering at the technical universities around the world. Maillart won an architectural competition, because it was the cheapest one of 19 drafts. In 1991, the bridge was appointed as "International historic civil engineering landmark" by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
