The USS Oriskany, or the 'Mighty O' as it was called, was an aircraft carrier serving in Korea and Vietnam. The Oriskany was completed in 1950, and until it's decommissioned in 1976, served all over the world. It received many modifications to maintain it's technological edge, until it became too obsolete in 1975. It bounced around various ports until it was transferred to the state of Florida for use as a natural reef in 2004. After preparations in consultation with the Environmental Protection Agency, the ship was sunk on May 17, 2006. It remains a popular destination for divers both recreational and professional.
