The stadium was funded in 1902 and was part of a park owned by Companhia Antarctica Paulista beverages company, so that the stadium is also known as Parque Antártica. In 1920 the stadium was acquired by Palestra Itália, now called Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras. Through the years, Palestra Itália has been extended and the actual capacity is 32,400 people.
