This is a 3D representation in Google Earth of the Buried A-Frame in Kid Valley, Washington. This non-descript A-frame cabin was three weeks away from being completed by its owner, when Mount St. Helens erupted with devastating force on May 18, 1980. The resulting lahars and mudflows from that eruption buried Kid Valley with up to eight feet of mud and volcanic debris. This cabin, along with scores of others, were abandoned after the eruption, and a few of them became local landmarks. This A-Frame is one such landmark. From 1981 (when it was unearthed) to the late 1990s, this A-frame was open for tours of the inside, allowing visitors to see the impact it had on the A-Frame itself (mudflow lines are still present to this day on the inside walls). While the inside has since been closed off for visitors, it remains a popular landmark along Highway 504 leading into the Mount St. Helens area.
I've replicated this A-Frame based on photographic record, and memory. I've also replicated a portion of its interior - the same portion of the interior visitors see now as viewed from a security rail keeping visitors out.
