Building construction completed in 1958. Lloyd Short, P. Eng. was the lead structural engineer on this structure. http://www.sdi.ca/pastprojects.php?id=buildings/sirhumphreygilbert 7 Floor - Modern Style Highrise - Government Office Bldg Sir Humphrey Gilbert (ca. 1537-1583), English soldier and colonizer, failed in his attempt to settle Newfoundland. Nevertheless he took the first step toward building a British colonial empire in America. Born at Greenway, Devonshire by a well-to-do family.
