Wooden railroad ties, images of weight and density, are a common sight along the railroad tracks in Hammond, LA. Old railroad ties, 6”x8”x6’, are stacked up and bounded by salvaged steel rail tracks, creating a shelter for train travelers. The undulating yet geometric form provides contrast between patterns of structure and chaos. The aged wood grain and marked steel from the old train tracks mark the town’s historical associations with the locomotive.
