The Louise Weiss building was built in 1999 by the French government for 470 million euros, and afterwards it was rented to the European Union. From above, the building looks like Napoleon's hat, the 60m high tower with the MEP's offices was deliberately left unfinished. It is inspired by the Colosseum in Rome and Pieter Brueghel's painting 'The Tower of Babel'. The Hemicycle is located in a egg-shaped dome.
The 785 parliamentarians have been directly elected every 5 years and represent over 500 million citizens in 27 countries.
