Valentina Tereschkowa was the first woman in space.. One year late the opening ceremony of the memorial took place. It is situated at the south of Kazakhstan, 6 kilometres north of the Kosmodrom Baiqongyr. Today Baiqongyr is still the biggest rocket launching site in the world, stretching over an area of 6717 square kilometres. The model of Valentina Tereschkowa was formed by the artist Max Grüter from Switzerland.
