The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center is located on the west side of Manhattan, New York. Architects I. M. Pei and partners designed the building with construction finalizing in 1986. The same year New York Senator Jacob K. Javits passed away and was thusly commemorated in the naming of the Convention Center. In October 16, 2006, the City of New York held aa groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of an expansion project, now scheduled for completion by 2010. Once it is finished it will be one of the largest convention centers in the U.S.
