Building on Market St. in downtown Lowell. , Built circa. 1878. Lower floor houses a real estate office. Street view used for photo textures. In the 1950s through the 90s, this building and the building to the left ( the Coburn Building) were combined into "Birke's Dept. Store.. a famous store owned and operated by Nathan and Sally Birke. Browsers were not welcome in the store! If Nathan Birke thought you were browsing in his store, he would throw you out. A quirky and legendary store in the history of Lowell. Birke's closed in 2004. The attached metal sign was removed to reveal the original structures.
