The bridge was constructed between 1880 and 1884 by Gustave Eiffel. It is 565 meters long and has a principal arch of 165 meters. Lightweight design gives the bridge a low wind resistance and makes it very rigid. The arc bends only 8 millimeters under a load of a train.
