The Michigan State Capitol, nestled in the heart of downtown Lansing, has served as Michigan's seat of state government since its completion in 1879. Designed by foremost state capitol architect Elijah E. Myers in the 1870s, the building reflected the states need for a building, representative of the government growing in size and complexity. Beginning in 1987 and completed in 1992, the Michigan State Capitol Building underwent extensive historical restoration to return both the interior and exterior to their original appearance.
