Redoubt is a military term describing an enclosed fortified position that can be used to defend a prominent point or a position along a larger defensive line. The Santo Domingo Redoubt is a reconstruction of an element of the Cubo Line – an earthen fortification using palm logs for support. The Cubo Line stretched from Matanzas Bay to the San Sebastian River to protect the town on the north. Today the Santo Domingo Redoubt is located near the corner of Cordova and Orange Streets. In colonial times it represented the intersection of the Cubo Line with the Rosario Line – another fortification that ran north and south approximately along what is now Cordova Street.
