The Steel House is designed to take advantage of one particular view, and that view is of the Golden Bay Bridge. That is why the house situated in direct access to the Bridge. The house is clad in rusted steel panels for two reasons: the first is to resemble the distinctive feature of the Bridge and second it provides a non-corrosive material in this salty environment. The house is elevated on piers in order to minimize it’s footprint on the land, which is essential to the site. This gesture provides uninterrupted view of the ocean to pedestrian’s utilizing Crissy Field.
