The "Staatliche Fachoberschule und Staatliche Berufsoberschule" (FOS-BOS) are a system of Germany schools dedicated to further education of peole already having practical job experience in order to achieve the vocational diploma. In 1970 Weißenburg received the permission to create one of these (at this time) new schools. In septenber 10th this year the school opened, for the first years only having limited space in provisional rooms. When this model's building in the Wildbadstraße became free in 1977, which significantly improved the situation, although the house required quite some renovations. The neo-classical building consists of a core from the end of the 19th century and a mid 20th century addition in the west. The latest addition is a new extension in the north-east providing additional classrooms. It was erected in 2010, and during the construction work the old city wall located in this area was partially re-constructed.
