In the Middle Ages there was a little chapel dedicated to Saint Alban. In the 14th Century, it was expanded to a parish church of which the Gothic tower remained.
Under the rule of the dukes from Leiningen, the old nave was demolished in 1772 and rebuilt in North-South direction, contrary to convention. Also, the gothic tower was given a Baroque dome.
In 1772 the church was consecrated to St. Salvator (our savior) .
The current structure survived the trials of time as a historic Baroque church. A jewel of the church is the famous Geib organ with its 17 registers.
