This post type windmill was originally built as a corn mill in 1803 at nearby Aldringham. It was dismantled and rebuilt at Thorpeness in 1922/23. It was converted to a wind pump with patent sails (See Sir William Cubitt in Wikipedia) to feed the 'House in the clouds' water tower, supplying the holiday village with water. This continued until 1940, when an engine was installed to do the job. The mill is now fitted with non-operational skeleton patent sails, and In 2010 the mill was put up for sale for around £150,000.
Included in this model are many details. However, some details are lost due to optimisation by Google, please visit the Google 3D Warehouse where you can download a better copy into Google Earth (Just click on the picture of the model in this info box) Thank you for reading.
Note to Sketchup users: This model has a file size reduced by the extensive use of mirrored and nested components, and simple textures. Virtual woodworking is also less painful than the real thing.
